Trustees of Public Funds
The Trustees of Public Funds is an elected office that is charged with the proper investment and distribution of monies held in trust by the Town of Arlington. At present, the Town of Arlington has four funds that the trustees manage. The Trustees especially want to draw your attention to the first two funds listed below, as they can be used by town residents for creative and helpful purposes that will benefit the town and/or its residents.
Edith and Emmett Smith Fund
The family of Edith and Emmett Smith wish to establish a fund to be used by the residents of Arlington to further the enrichment of the Town.” Preference is given to those projects that impact the youth of the community. For example, funds were recently used by an Eagle scout to build wooden benches placed in Arlington.
Florence Holden Fund
This fund was established to give financial support to people who experienced loss due to a catastrophic event, such as a fire or accident. Miss Holden had in mind the particular needs of people who might require relief beyond what aid is otherwise available to them.
Tri-Centennial Fund
This fund is to be used to help offset the cost of an Arlington/Sunderland Tri-Centennial Celebration, disbursed only in 2076.
Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund
This fund is to be use only for long-term projects at the two Arlington cemeteries, such as repairing fences or replacing headstones. It is not to be used for yearly maintenance.
