The Town of Arlington seeks to fill the role of part-time Land Use Administrator (LUA). The role is for 6 to 18 hours a week based on seasonal variations in construction activities and the wage rate will be set based on experience with a range of $18 to $22 an hour. These hours would include office hours for the public, training, site visits, appointments and one or two evening meetings a month. In addition to wages, the LUA also collects a set fee on documents processed. Meetings run from approximately 7 to 9 pm on nights decided by the Arlington Planning Commission (APC) and the Zoning Board of Adjustment (ZBA). Work is done from an office in Arlington Town Hall.
The LUA works with community members to help them comply with Arlington Zoning By-laws as they use and develop their property. The LUA has the ability to issue a number of permits directly, while other permit applications must go before the APC and/or the ZBA. The LUA supports the work of these bodies by reviewing planning documents, conducting site visits, writing zoning compliance letters, and other administrative tasks.
There is no particular qualification for this job, but we hope to appoint someone who is computer-literate, with good time management, and good organizational skills. The individual may choose their own office hours, with at least one day having some hours between 9 am and 2 pm Monday through Thursday so as to provide access to the Town vault for any needed deed research. Please send inquiries and applications to cynthia.browning@arlingtonvermont.org or call 802-379-9916. An application should include a resume and a cover letter. The mailing address is Arlington Select Board, PO Box 268, Arlington, VT 05250 and an application can be dropped off at the Town Hall at 3828 Rte 7A, Arlington. Candidates should expect to do a first interview with the Town Administrator and a second interview with one or more elected or appointed public officials. The role will remain open until filled.
