The Town of Arlington requests applications for its Highway Supervisor/Crew person position.
The Highway Supervisor/Crew person oversees all operations and maintenance of Town roadways and equipment and associated facilities.
The Supervisor/Crew person works for the Select Board and the taxpayers of Arlington and is expected to deal with the public in a courteous manner. On an everyday basis, they report to the Town Administrator.
The Supervisor/Crew person is one of a three-member crew and will be capable of operating all Town equipment, plan highway projects, and purchase highway materials. The Supervisor/Crew person will work with the Town Administrator on specifications for any purchased major highway equipment. This is a working position, with the Supervisor/Crew person expected to complete all tasks expected of those they supervise, and actively work to improve the skills of the highway department.
Must hold a valid CDL License of at least Class B and be able to pass random drug and alcohol tests. Must be able to drive a manual transmission CDL truck (no “automatic” restriction). Previous work on Vermont highway crews is preferred.
Regular hours are 40 per week. Winter hours are dictated by weather conditions. All required hours over 40 are overtime during winter, with compensation time accrued for excess hours outside winter. Pay is approximately $25 per hour depending on experience, and the individual is eligible for town healthcare and Vermont municipal pension benefits.
