Statement of Purpose: The purpose of this amendment was to wholly re-write the zoning bylaw without adjustment to the existing zoning boundaries. There were adjustments to essentially all parts of the bylaw excluding the zoning map, including re-ordering and reorganization of sections, changing permitted and conditional uses in all zones, adding a waiver process, adding clarity to definitions, and implementation of HOME Act requirements. The bylaw had not been wholly rewritten since initial adoption in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The first goal was to improve the clarity and usability of the bylaw by changing the format of the document. The second goal was to improve the explanation of use categories and update them to fit modern understandings of uses. The third goal was to add potential housing capacity including implementation of HOME Act requirements.
Geographic Extent: The changes to the zoning bylaw cover the Town of Arlington in its entirety. There are no changes to the town zoning districts or map.
