The Town of Arlington Finance Administrator/Treasurer is part-time municipal position expected to manage the financial operations of the local government. The Finance Administrator/Treasurer will be responsible for managing the day-to-day financial and accounting efforts of the town, including but not limited to: maintaining accurate accounting and related records, processing payroll and tax payments, issuing financial reports and statements, and ensuring compliance with state and federal laws and regulations. The Finance Administrator/Treasurer shall serve as tax collector for the town, prepare the annual municipal property tax rate, mail of tax bills, and collection of current revenues, as well as certain statutory duties as school district Treasurer. The Finance Administrator/Treasurer will also serve as the liaison between the town and external auditors, banks, and other financial institutions. The Finance Administrator/Treasurer will work closely with the Town Administrator on all matters related to town spending and budget, including payroll, grant accounting, regulatory reporting, and preparation for public-facing financial discussions. The Finance Administrator/Treasurer shall coordinate with the Select Board Assistant on matters of accounts payable, the Town Clerk on utility and fee payments, and the Listers regarding the Grand List and matters of tax assessment.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field, and at least three years of accounting experience for a private or public body. The candidate must also have strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Excel and some form of accounting software. The candidate must be able to work independently and collaboratively with the Town Administrator, the Select Board, and other town officials and staff.

About the Job

The position is part-time, with an expected workload of 20 hours per week. The wage range is $30-$40 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience. The position also offers a flexible schedule, 13 paid holidays, healthcare stipend, vacation and sick leave, a private office with recently-updated IT, and a supportive work environment. Much of the job can be done while working remotely although substantial in-office hours are required, with in-office time needs varying by season. The position is appointed by and reports to the Select Board as an employee of the town, and is overseen by the Select Board both directly and indirectly via their agent, the Town Administrator.
